Caroline BennittNews

Atec is proud to host the SLS/Orion leadership from NASA and industry at our facility on Wednesday, December 7 in Stafford, TX. A presentation will be provided along with a tour of the Atec campus, with a Texas BBQ lunch to follow. In attendance, will be representatives from NASA, Aerojet Rocketdyne, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Orbital ATK, including retired astronaut Brian Duffy. Media are invited to attend the program, which will begin at 10:30 am.

The Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft are currently being developed for human exploration of deep space. The SLS and Orion will take us further into space than we have ever gone before, as a prelude to NASA’s journey to Mars. The SLS rocket’s upgraded lift and payload capability will enable faster travel capability and longer duration missions. The Exploration Mission-1 will launch in 2018 from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. First crewed flight is set for 2021 with the goal of landing humans on Mars by the 2030s.

Atec is one of 130 suppliers in Texas selected to build space hardware and components for the Orion spacecraft and SLS rocket. Atec is a small, family-owned, aerospace company of 150 dedicated workers located in Stafford, TX that has been in business for over 63 years. Other Atec space work includes manufacturing and testing Lithium-Ion Battery Adapter Plates for the ISS, supplying power flow units on the Commercial Crew Space Capsule, and manufacturing and testing RL10 cryo fuel valves for Atlas and Delta launches that take place monthly. NASA-JSC has recently selected Atec as its subcontractor of the Year for 2016.
