Atec President Paul Fenley made an announcement from Atec’s booth at SpaceCom earlier today. “Atec has partnered with the City of Houston Airport System to advance Spaceport Houston and the recently purchased Houston Aerospace Support Center building at Ellington Airport. We are excited that we can grow our space business along with City initiatives to sustain the Johnson Space Center, boost Ellington and the Spaceport, and retain the world renowned space leadership of Houston.”
Atec will be investigating multi-tenant utilization of the former Boeing HPSC facility adjacent to JSC’s Neutral Buoyancy Lab. This high bay facility offers two overhead crane systems with 3 hoists, machine shop, materials storage, clean room, office space and more. Proofs of concepts, prototyping, test rig developments, hardware audits and mods, manufacturability reviews, production process refinements, readiness reviews, field trial hardware verifications and integration fit-ups are all ideal for this facility. Nearby aerospace entities can work with hardware downstairs at HASC, with office personnel upstairs at HASC and next door in Tower Two, or in other nearby office space.
Atec plans to be a tenant in the renamed HASC to better service a growing space hardware business from JSC area primes. Come by and visit with us in booth 634 at SpaceCom.
